One year later

So, we're about a month late, but Nicholas finally got his year pictures taken. I don't usually like props in pictures, but he was flirting with the girl taking the picture, and think this one turned out pretty cute.

Men say the funniest things

The other day, we got out of the car, the sun shining on Nicholas' hair as Jim carried him into the house, and he said,

"Ever notice how wierd Nicholas' hair is?"

"How so?" I asked.

"Well, it's not all one color, it's striped?" (refering to his highlights)

I said, "Honey, people pay money for hair like Nicholas'."

This next conversation, is one you will never find two women having. Last Sunday, we went to my parents house for our family dinner. My uncle and his family stopped by. My dad was talking to my uncle Rick, and said,

"How much do you weigh, now?"

"Oh, about 200 lbs., you?"

"I'm probably up to 160 now."

Then, as my uncle and his family are walking down the driveway to leave, my dad bolts out of the bathroom, and down the driveway, his finger waving in the air, saying "I'm 165!"

I love you guys...you keep me laughing!

Claire Dress

I finished making the Claire Dress. It didn't start out how I wanted, because I couldn't find the fabric I originally had in mind, and at first, I really didn't like it how it was turning out. But after I finished the applique and attached the apron, I'm happy with the result. We are having a talant show at church, and I am going to showcase some of the things I've sewn. I think this dress just might have to make an appearance.

can't forget the matching bow

Surgery

Nicholas had surgery to clear a clogged tear duct. We had to get to the hospital by 6 a.m. The surgery didn't start until about 7:40, so we had some time to kill. It's hard to find things to entertain a 13 month old with at a hospital. We spent a lot of time talking on the phone and putting the hospital socks on his hands just so he could take them off. The doctor, nurses and anestesiologist were great with Nicholas. I had to dress in some white coveralls, but they let me go into the operating room while he was put to sleep. The surgery itself was very quick. The doctor came to get me as soon as it was over and let me go into the recovery room, where I found him screaming in one of the nurses arms. They said that is a common reaction when babies wake from anestesia. It took longer than expected, but after about 15 mins he calmed down. The doctor said that Nicholas' eye would have never cleared up on it's own, regardless of how much we massaged it or put ointments in his eye. His was an underdeveloped tear duct and after they probed it they inserted a stent into his eye. The stent, which looks like a red thread, goes from the the corner of his eye and down into his nose. What it does is it keeps the tear duct open, so the tears can drain properly. He doesn't notice it, and they hope it will stay in for about 6 weeks. I felt a little silly at first bringing out my camera at the hospital, but then I noticed that all the other parents had their camera too, and were taking pictures.

Thomas and Friends

We took Riley to see Thomas when he came to Fillmore. Except for riding Thomas, it was an entirely free event, which was really nice. There was a bounce house, miniature golfing, tatoo's, and a bunch of stations where you could play with different train systems. It would have been even nicer had it not been about 90 degrees outside. Regardless, he seemed to have a good time.
